Our main focus in Maths for this half term will be on multiplication and division. We will begin by learning how to multiply by 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12 and so quick recall of these times tables will be extremely beneficial! We will then move on to learn how to use a written method to multiply by 2 and 3-digit numbers. After that we will use our knowledge of times tables to learn how to divide, including dividing with remainders.

In the first few weeks of the new half term we will be looking at writing a novel based on the book ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’.  We will first watch different interpretations of the famous tale and hot seat the Pied Piper himself! Then we will learn the story through ‘Talk for Writing’ and perform the story to the other Year 4 Class. In our extended writes, we will have the chance to change the story of ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’, using our own ideas to create a 21st century version of the fairy tale.

We have a fantastic topic this half term - we will be looking at The Great Plague! We start off by learning about the events that happened within London at the time and what exactly the plague is. We build up and have some great writing opportunities, where we pretend to be residents of London at the time of the plague. We will be completing artwork around the topic and even looking at the geography of waste and how diseases such as the plague can manifest themselves in the world we have today.
