PSHE - Jigsaw

PSHE education is a subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare for life and work in modern Britain. Evidence shows that effective and well-delivered PSHE programmes have an impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for pupils, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

At Lowerhouse we use the Jigsaw PSHE approach, this is a mindful approach to PSHE. This means that Jigsaw teaches children to become aware of their thoughts and feelings throughout the programme, relating this to the PSHE subject matter being studied. The Calm Me time at the beginning of each Piece (lesson) develops mindfulness using breathing techniques, awareness exercises and visualisations, tried and tested activities which are enjoyable for children
and teachers alike.

Jigsaw is structured into 6 half-termly Puzzles (units) with the whole school studying the same Puzzle at the same time. The Puzzles are sequential and developmental from September to July. These units are:

·         Being Me

·         Celebrating Differences

·         Dreams and Goals

·         Healthy Me

·         Relationships

·         Changing Me

Each child has a Jigsaw PSHE folder where we store all their learning activities and assessments. We also have a designated Jigsaw Celebration Display in each classroom where we share our achievements and successes.  Please have a look at the Jigsaw PSHE policy and if you require any further information please feel free to pop in and see Mrs Holgate.
